INFO NAME: Keith CANON: Voltron: Legendary Defender CANONPOINT: Open to anything! I watch the show the moment it airs, so I'm always caught up. AGE: 19 pre-S6 timeskip, 21 after (unless it's clarified that he took two years to get back), 22 after S7 (unless, again, it took two years to get back from the Quantum Abyss), 23 after the events of S8 and 24 after the timeskip (from what I can tell). HEIGHT / BUILD: I play Keith at around 5'9", though he's a character who is bigger or smaller depending on the narrative and what it requires of him in that moment. He's a pretty slim and trim guy either way. PERMISSIONS SENSITIVE SUBJECTS: A lot of sensitive subjects for Keith aren't the types of things that people would bring up normally. He's part alien, and he doesn't really like the idea that aliens are weird, exotic, or anything like that. People viewing them as the Other really would make him uncomfortable, if not set him off. He's done a fair bit of running away in his life, and he has an abandonment complex the size of Jupiter. That said, post-S6x2 Keith is doing a lot better thanks to some quality time with his awesome mom and getting a pet dog. I personally perceive things like failing to live up to people's expectations, failure, and struggling to understand people to be Keith's most probable points of discomfort. He's really bad at people and is willing to vocalize that he is, but it doesn't mean that he's over it. It's more something that he's more patient about after a point, but he still struggles in reaching out and connecting to others. That's part of why his Galra revelation was so important to him as a character: it helps him find an explanation for why he's always felt different. At the same time, he becomes terrified that he's not inherently capable of good. He's always lashed out and had a "bit of a temper," so those combined factors terrified him a bit. Getting to know his mother has helped, but there's still the rest of ... everyone else. Every new interaction is a learning process for Keith. MENTAL INFO: Keith is the natural end result of feeling abandoned. His mother left him when he wasn't even a year old, and his father died in a fire trying to save people (when I'm certain some part of Keith really wished he had been willing to take care of himself more to stick around for Keith). His father was a hero, and happened to be remembered as such, and Keith entered the foster care system following his death. As a result of all of this, Keith has grown up poorly socialized and more likely to act out and push people away. He's the kid who would do something bad just to prove that he would. Otherwise, Keith is someone who sets personal boundaries for himself without realizing it, and tends to lash out when he's pushed outside of them. He's grown to be far more patient and focused as he's gotten older, but that doesn't mean he's without his edge. He has a temper and can snap at people, but he'll reel himself back in (and sometimes will do it before he speaks). Deep down, Keith isn't that different from his mom or dad. He's the type to throw caution to the wind—and his own life, if necessary—to care for the people he loves. Or even people who just deserve a protector. Or ... you get the picture. FOURTHWALLING: Because Voltron is a pop culture phenomenon that's been around for a while, I'm cool with people recognizing it. What I'm not cool with is people telling Keith he's fake. Actually, he would likely think people just mean he's from the cartoon show depending on the context. People knowing what Voltron is will make sense given its importance throughout the universe, as well as potentially the multiverse. PHYSICAL CONTACT: He seems to be all right with casual touching. He tends to cross his arms a bit and hold himself back, but he doesn't mind it terribly. He'll hug people he cares about and really melt into it, though! ROMANCE/SEXUAL RELATIONS: Within a strictly canon context, I have a hard time seeing Keith being interested in romantic relationships with others (at least in terms of prioritizing them over the mess of his life, being a paladin, and more—it's not even on the list of things that would draw his attention in canon, especially when we see this in contrast to someone like Lance). Throughout the show, we see him make an aside maybe once to someone else's interests in another person. Otherwise, he ignores what people say: when Lance is jealous, when Zethrid and Ezor tease Acxa for her crush on him, and more. It's not a priority for him, and he has it in him to deeply care for a lot of people. That said, it's that immense capacity for caring for others despite the fact that he's awkward as hell that can build into something more. It's just a matter of getting there and making Keith focus on that. I personally don't think Keith has had any romantic experience, but you know he gives a lot of fucks about certain people (Shiro, I mean Shiro the most). By the end of the series, it's apparent that Keith is ride or die for anyone he cares about, not just Shiro, and will do whatever he can to help them. That includes awkward and cute pep talks. Let's be real: these are probably harder for Keith than risking his life to save someone. INJURE/KILL: Keith loves fighting. He's basically a space ninja who gets better at what he does every season. Honestly, it's embarrassing. MEME SPECIFIC NOTES: Keith is my fandom bicycle for Voltron, and I am down for a lot of things, sans the following: Keith being aggressive or confident about sex (he's going to be a failure), rewriting the ending of S8 or implying that Keith was bothered with the marriage, or rewriting scenes with Keith and a character to be Keith and someone else. (That said: The EPs barely stand by the epilogue, so why do we have to? It's better to pretend it never happened than awkwardly try to revise it.) I personally like if Keith is hard to ship because it suits him, and makes the build up more interesting. I primarily ship him with Shiro, Hunk, James, and Lance.
